“Tom and Jerry, The Movie” was a mediocre updated version of the famous show which has many exceptional and unexceptional qualities but leaves many new surprises. Overall, the movie was disappointing in its outcome with lack of originality and lack of comedy.

The movie begins with a change of plot, as Tom and Jerry move out of the famous house from the original series. The story takes the audience on an adventure as Tom and Jerry meet new friends and overcome their instinctual dispute with each other.

Released on Feb. 26, the main cast is comprised of Chloe Grace Moretz as Kayla, Colin Jost as Ben, Pallavi Sharda as Preeta, Micheal Peña as Terrance, and William Hanna as Mel Blanc.

One of the key elements to the film’s success are its group of actors that contribute to its name. Chloe Grace Moretz makes this movie what it is with her credibility. This is the one sole factor that takes to the film’s success.

The show doesn’t have a great strength. The movie is unsatisfying to watch. Its lack of comedy and terrible storyline leaves the show with no strengths other than the actors in the movie who carry it with their credibility. The lack of comedy ruined the show’s assumed strength and took away it’s reputation.

The only element that drives the plot is Tom and Jerry’s relationship. The constant bickering and silly jokes they play on each other is the only factor of the movie that keeps its original touch. The movie’s plot differs largely from the lines of the original show which is upsetting and disappointing for original fans of the show.

Despite the one strength the show has, “Tom and Jerry, The movie” fell short through lack of originality, lack of comedy, and a terrible script. The Movie lost the show’s original touch. With all the new characters you would never assume there was an original show. The terrible comedy, leaving audiences with frowns on their face was a huge let down as well as the script with a storyline that was uninteresting and without common sense.

Similarly, the new movie’s amount of new characters is unsettling and ruined the originality of the movie.  The new characters also made it confusing to watch and they stole the spotlight from Tom and Jerry. Overall, the film could have been a lot more exciting if the writers stuck to the original ideals of the show.

“Tom and Jerry, The Movie” sadly did not meet fan’s standards and left audiences disappointed with its mediocre version of the original shows.

“Tom and Jerry The Movie”, rated TV-G, is available for streaming on HBO Max.
