The South Bay Culture Club, which began meeting on September 25th, 2021, is a youth engagement program that promotes inclusion, diversity, and friendship.

The program, which is sponsored by Ohana Surf Club, AVP First, and Supervisor Janice Hahn, involves youth from throughout the South Bay and takes place at Bruce’s Beach. The club’s location allows the program’s leaders to educate kids on the history of Bruce’s Beach and the current issues surrounding the area. The program’s length is about five and a half hours, and takes place on four Saturdays this fall. Each  day starts with parent drop-off and sign in, and includes activities such as surfing, volleyball, beach games, and culinary classes.

“I didn’t realize how well this would work out when I first came up with the idea. I was questioning the idea at first, but decided to go for it and I haven’t looked back since,” said Allison Hale, founder of the South Bay Culture Club.
