The new season of “You” hits number one on Netflix with a new twist from past seasons.

Season three of “You” is the best yet. The suspenseful plot keeps viewers on the edge, constantly intrigued throughout the 10-episode series with incredible acting performances and writing.

Released on Oct. 15, the psychological thriller “You” stars Penn Badgley as Joe; Victoria Pedretti as Love; Dylan Arnold as Theo Engler; Tati Gabrielle as Marienne; Shalita Grant as Sherry; and Travis Van Winkle as Cary. The series was created by Sera Gamble and Greg Berlanti before season one was released in 2018.

Season three continues in Madre Linda as Joe and Quinn try to adapt to a newly domesticated life with a new son, Henry. Joe and Quinn try to get away from a dark past life as serial killers in Los Angeles and start over as a happily married couple in their new town.

In seasons one and two, the series follows a similar format: Joe becomes obsessed with a girl and does anything to get them to be with each other, including murder. Season three switches it up, allowing viewers to see a new dynamic with both Joe and Quinn commenting on suburbia and marriage in America.

The writing in this season never left a dull moment. The plot’s suspense throughout the entire series keeps viewers watching; a vast improvement from season two that lulled mid-way through.

Throughout the season, flashbacks occur to when Joe was a child. Although some were redundant, these scenes help explain why Joe is the way he is and gives more context to his actions. The audience learns about perspectives. Joe as a character is guarded around other men, so learning about his childhood trauma helped him become a more developed character.

Both Badgley and Pedretti gave an incredible performance this season. Pedretti plays Love, a complex and fascinating character extremely well, as the audience learns more about her relationship with her parents. This show could have significantly improved if some of the flashback scenes had included some aspects of Love’s childhood that would have shown a new side of the character and allowed viewers to learn more about her and how she became who she is.

The secondary characters perfectly complement the series and add to the storyline. Marienne, Sherry and Cary add a new dynamic to the season by contributing to the suburbia theme and adding comedic elements to a serious show.

“You” season three is suspenseful and has a well-written plot, leaving the audience with a binge-worthy show and amazing performances from actors as well.

Released on Oct. 15, ‘You’ is rated TV-MA, and all three seasons can be streamed on Netflix.
