Costa hosted Spring Formal on March 12 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Westin LAX.

Since Costa couldn’t host last semester’s Winter Formal due to COVID-19 protocols, the Spring Formal sold tickets at an exceedingly high rate, according to senior Joah Lee. Tickets were available starting Feb. 28 and sold out by March 4.

“I was so excited to go to my first formal here at Costa,” freshman Kaylie Fenton said. “It was fun seeing my friends while being part of the Costa community.”

Before entering the venue, students were required to show their student I.D. and their Spring Formal tickets to teacher volunteers. Costa provided  COVID-19 tests, and each student needed to have a negative test result 72 hours prior to the dance.

“The amount of energized people in the venue was exciting,” sophomore Lily Boettcher said. “I loved the experience of meeting new people and seeing my friends throughout the night.”

The music selection consisted of mostly early 2000s pop music. According to junior Ella Boettcher, there was an immense amount of energy and excitement coming from students as they danced with one another.

“I enjoyed having a night where I could just surround myself with my close friends,” Boettcher said. “The Spring Formal was pretty enjoyable and memorable.”

At the event, there were several pits created by the students during the dance to different genres of music. The DJ had purposely chosen early hits that most students would know, according to Lee.

Tickets, according to ASB Activities Director Lisa Claypoole, were increasingly difficult to come by due to the 1,000-student limit. Less than half of the student body was able to attend, causing ticket sales to rise from $57 to $62 during the week before the event.

“Overall, all students seemed to be having a good time,” Lee said. “As my last Spring Formal, the experience has been a complete joyride.”
