On Tuesday, Mira Costa boys tennis lost, 15-3, against Peninsula High School. This was their first loss in Bay League, making their overall record for the season 7-2.

“Penn is a great team, and we knew that going into the match,” junior Jake Burns said. “We all definitely tried our hardest, but we are going to practice harder since we play them again later on in the season.”

A top performer in the Tuesday match was number-one singles player senior Kelly Giese. According to Giese, he put up a good fight and tried his hardest but ultimately fell short against the top Peninsula players.

“This was our toughest match so far in our season,” Giese said. “I am definitely going to practice harder for our next match against them.”

Juniors Nicholas Wong and Ethan Crowley played number-one doubles against Peninsula. According to Wong, they love being able to play together, and being partners has allowed them to become closer friends on and off the court.

“I really enjoy playing with Nicholas,” Crowley said. “We have played together a few times already this season, so we know how to work well together.”

The team’s next match was an away game against Palos Verdes on Thursday, but results were not available at the time of print. According to sophomore Will Lokier, the team is excited to play against Palos Verdes, and they are feeling prepared.

“The team is ready to face off against Palos Verdes,” Lokier said. “They are a good team and will allow us to have a good competition.”
