Boys Tennis goes 1-1 this week

RECEIVING: Doubles partners junior Ethan Crowley and freshman Edmund Lu receive the serve from Peninsula’s number two doubles team. Costa came close with a score of 8-10, but fell short, winning only two matches.

This past week boys tennis faced off against Culver City High School and Peninsula High School, going 1-1 overall.

On Tuesday, Costa dominated against Culver City, 17-1. The Mustangs started off strong and continued the lead throughout the match.

“We all played really well yesterday, and that showed with our outcome of 17-1,” doubles player freshman Edmund Lu said. “Our doubles team won all nine matches, and we all had great communication with one another during every match.”

Top performers of Tuesday’s match were the doubles team, senior Jensen Ring and junior Cullen Sullivan. The duo went 6-3, 6-1, 6-1 against Culver’s top 3 doubles partners.

“Cullen and I played really well together, and we ended up winning all three rounds,” Ring said. “We both communicated throughout the entire match, and our shots were consistent throughout the match against Culver City.”

On Thursday, Costa faced off against Peninsula High School, 8-10. The team started off strong, but ultimately fell short in the end.

“Going into the match we felt confident in ourselves and hoped for the best,” doubles player senior Jensen Ring said. “Both doubles and singles worked hard and put in our best effort, but sadly we were still beat out by Penn. We were excited to go out and play like always and are going to work even harder for our next matches to come.”

The Mustangs will be playing at Costa against Palos Verdes on Tuesday, April 19. This is the team’s second time playing against them, the first time on March 17 the team went 5-13.

“We are excited to go against Palos Verdes again even though we did not do that well against them the first time,” junior Cullen Sullivan said. “The team has improved overall a lot since we played them, and I feel like we are ready to go against them once again. It will be a tough battle,   but we can beat them.”
