On Monday, Costa boys tennis lost against Redondo Union High School. This was the Mustangs sixth loss in Bay League, making their overall record 10-6.

“We didn’t play very well the last time we played Redondo,” senior doubles player Kelly Giese said. “Hopefully, this time we are more prepared and ready to fight the entire match. Today is Senior Day, so our team spirit will be up.”

Two top performers of the match were doubles players sophomore William Lokier and senior Jensen Ring. The duo played number-three doubles throughout the match and ended up winning all three rounds, 6-2, 6-4, and 6-0.

“Our team played really well today, and our doubles lines really carried the match,” senior doubles player Cal Porter said. “We almost beat Redondo this time; hopefully we can beat them during our individual Bay League matches.”

Giese and Porter played number-one doubles against Redondo. According to Giese, they had never played a doubles match together before.

“I really enjoyed playing with Kelly for the first time,” said Porter. “It was our last home Bay League match, so we wanted to finish strong, and we ended up winning.”

This was the Mustangs’ last Bay League match before select players played in the individual Bay League held at Jack Kramer Club in Palos Verdes on Wednesday and Thursday, but results were not available at the time of print.

“With having an individual Bay League this week, it definitely puts pressure on everyone since we don’t know who is being selected,” said Lokier. “It also encourages everyone to try their best, which ultimately helped get a close score to Redondo.”

Before the match against Redondo, the boys celebrated their last bay league match with their annual Senior Day. The seniors who were recognized were Kelly Giese, Cal Porter, Jensen Ring, and Tanner Chen.

“I will miss our seniors very much when they leave, and the team won’t be the same without them,” said freshman Edmund Lu. “They have taught all of [us] so many life lessons on and off

the court.”
