The Backseat Lovers’ concert took place on April 26 at the Hollywood Palladium. The overall dynamic of the concert was phenomenal due to the energy provided by illuminating flashing lights.

The concert was general admission, which fostered a crowded night full of excited people waiting for the Backseat Lovers to open the concert. Since the concert was sold out, the lines to enter the venue were chaotic. Waiting for the lines was worth it, though, as the phenomenal music and high energy of the concert made attendees excited for each new song.

“Kilby Girl” was spectacularly performed, with lively vocals from lead singer Joshua Harmon and a strong rock beat. The energy-filled song is the top-played track on the band’s 2019 album, “When We Were Friends.” The song was paired with exciting light displays that lit up the stage and audience.

“Pool House” offered enrapturing vocals offset by relaxed backing tracks, which were performed by KJ Ward on bass guitar and Juice Welch on drums.

Next, the band played “Maple Syrup,” a mournful song that captured the audience’s attention with juxtapositions between the idyllic feeling of the instrumental music and the melancholy of Harmon’s vocals and lyrics.

The band’s opening act was performed by Renata Zeiguer. Zeiguer’s performance was well done, but lacked the energy and stage presence of the headlining performers. Zeiguer performed “Wayside,” which provided a calm energy to start the show. However, the Backseat Lovers’ high-energy, engaging performance provided a welcome contrast, demonstrating Zeiguer’s lack of meaningful stage presence.

After the band’s main list, the band came back for an encore. The band played “Snowbank Blues,” “WordsI Used,” and “Sinking Ship.” The encore, which was composed of acoustic tracks, entranced the audience and provided a contrasting view to the band’s normally high-energy songs.

The band consistently interacted with the audience, taking suggestions for songs and talking to audience members in the front row. The amicable energy between the performers and the audience made the concert all the more enjoyable.
