The Mira Costa boy’s water polo team faced rival Palos Verdes in their first Bay League match of the year at home on October 4. The game was hard fought and the score was tied going into the fourth period at 6-6. However, when Palos Verdes scored two goals in the fourth period, the Mustangs were unable to score more than once against the PV defense, and Costa lost by a final score of 8-7.

Both team captains, senior Josh Huttinger and senior Matt Thornton, led the way for the Mustangs with a goal apiece in Costa’s losing effort.

“It was a good close game,” Thornton said. “We had a few lapses in judgment but we will do better next time.”

The boy’s record now falls to 6-6 and 0-1 in Bay League. The Mustangs will look to bounce back in their next game against Montebello at the Commerce Natatorium on October 6.
