The girls basketball team lost West Torrance High School 57-43 in their first Bay League game of the season on Tuesday.

The Warriors took an early lead, and were ahead, 19-8, at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter Costa trailed at halftime with a 27-18 score. West continued to dominate in the third quarter 45-26. Costa was unable to make a comeback in the fourth quarter and West took the game 57-43.

“I don’t think we played our best tonight. West is a very good team, and we would have to be at our best to beat them,” coach Lapham said. “Our defense was a little slow in rotating, and our rebounding was weak. Our offense was uneven, and we missed some shots that we would normally make.”

Senior guard Camille Mills led the Mustangs with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Senior forward Allison Bartak also contributed with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.

“I felt like we were not playing with energy, that our team chemistry needs work,” Alison Bartak said. “ If we put in the time in practice to focus on these things we could beat any team in the Bay League.”

The team now has The girls will play Redondo Union High School tonight at 6pm at Redondo.
