With over 200 people “liking” their page on Facebook, The Sax Pack, a student-run saxophone group, has brought music and entertainment to Mira Costa.

The Sax Pack was founded by Michael Jedynak, Brian Zukotynski, Jackson Webster, and Ryan Chase in 2011. They made their debut when they performed for the Costa talent show with the song ‘Under the Sea’.

“The Pack was so much fun for the two years I was in it,” Webster said. “It gave me a unique opportunity to explore an atypical performance model and to participate in the musical process from start to finish, arranging to rehearsing to performance.”

Within The Sax Pack, there is also a smaller group, consisting of seven saxophonists called The Sax Herd. In the 2012 talent show, they performed the song ‘Sail’.

“When the audience started cheering, it was so loud and full of energy,” Kartub said. “It was clear that they enjoyed it and it was awesome to feel appreciated. We all knew we had given the show our best.”

The Sax Pack performs at many events, including concerts, private gigs, and benefits like Relay for Life. Around Valentine’s day, they sell Valentine’s Day Saxograms. The person receiving the Saxogram is treated by a suprise visit in their classroom with a performance by The Sax Pack.

“I have gotten a lot better at playing and performing with more energy and emotion. I feel as if we spice up anything wherever we attack with energy and fun,” Kartub said.
