Mira Costa’s girls volleyball team defeated Peninsula 3-0 in a Bay League game at home on Tuesday with top performances by senior defense and libero Emma Smith, who kept the ball up continuously.

The Mustangs started out strong, winning the first set 25-13. They maintained their momentum throughout the second set and won 25-22. Costa dominated in the third and final set, 25-15, ending the game 3-0.

“The team played great overall,” sophomore libero and defense Lea Ungar said. “Emma Smith dug everything which gave us a huge advantage.”

Costa plays its next game on Thursday against Inglewood at home. The Mustangs’ current overall record is 14-2 and their Bay League record is 3-0. According to Ungar, Tuesday’s game went well, and the Mustangs can still improve in their next game.

“Our next game against Inglewood will go well,” Ungar said. “However, one thing we can improve on is our communication throughout the entire game.”
