Mira Costa’s boys water polo team defeated Redondo Union High School 11-3 in a home game, ending its Bay League season undefeated, 6-0.

The Mustangs jumped to out to a quick lead with goals from senior set guard Finn Pardon and junior attacker Christian Thornton. Pardon ended with four goals and felt that once he was given the ball on the inside, he was easily able to turn and hammer the ball in.

“I was getting good passes from the outside, so all I had to do was beat the goalie with a good shot from up close,” Pardon said.

Costa is now 22-5 overall and 6-0 in Bay League play. The Mustangs’ next game is at home Friday against Loyola, which is led by attacker Mac Carey. According to junior attacker Garrett Weatherly, the Mustangs are looking to end the regular season on a high note heading into the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoffs.

“It would be great to get a win Friday,” Weatherly said. “I think it would give us a lot of momentum going into CIF and could help us do well throughout it.”
