Boys soccer starts off season with a win against Long Beach

Mira Costa’s boys soccer team defeated Long Beach Wilson 3-0 in its first game of the season on Tuesday at Waller Stadium. The Mustangs used good footwork a strong offensive front that lead to the win.

Senior left middle, Kevin Vartan scored the first goal in the first half of the game. The next two goals were scored in the second half by senior Adrian Caldevilla and junior Raphael Diogo. According to Caldevilla, the boys had good communication during the game which helped them defeat Long Beach.

“We came out ready to win,” Caldevilla said. “We combined and linked up well with our strength being our ability to move the ball up quickly.”

Costa will play its next game Thursday against South East at South East High School at 6 p.m. The Mustangs are currently 1-0 overall. According to senior Zack Millicent, the team is well prepared for its next game with new plays that they have been practicing.

“In the next game, I think our team will perform well since we have many talented players,” Millicent said. “Our squad has a lot of depth and chemistry, and we have a great link up play which will be on display in the next game.”
