The Mustang softball team lost its second game of the season 9-0 in a convincing blowout by Carson at Cypress High School as a part of the Cypress Tournament.

In the first two innings, the Mustangs let up seven runs although having no errors. Throughout the rest of the game, runs were tough to come by, and it wasn’t until the final inning that Carson scored the final two runs to put the final nail in the coffin of the Mustangs.

“It was a poor effort both offensively and defensively,” Junior pitcher Elliott Estes said, “they scored those seven runs and we all seemed to get down and dip in confidence.”

The Mustangs, now 0-2 overall, will play Downey on Saturday at 9 a.m. in the second weekend of the Cypress tournament. According to Estes, the team is discussing how to overcome the adversity of losing during a game and mental toughness.

“We’re talking about how to solidly finish the game and how to stay in it even if they score a bunch of runs in the beginning , as Carson did on Saturday,” Estes said.
