Mira Costa’s baseball team defeated Golden Valley High School 2-0 in the second round of the Chatsworth Tournament on Saturday. Top performance from freshman pitcher Merrick Baldo helped the Mustangs maintain consistent scoring throughout the game.

Baldo pitched a complete game against Golden Valley High School while striking out seven batters only allowing one hit. According to Baldo, the team played well this weekend and also did a great job backing him while he was on the mound.

“This team has had my back through the whole season and I expected nothing less from them this game,” Baldo said. “We just had a great game defensively and we made big plays that allowed us to win.”

The Mustangs now 15-3 overall and 1-1 in Bay League, will play its next game away on Wednesday against Peninsula High School. According to Baldo, if the team can continue its hot streak this season, the future is bright for this game, and further Bay League games.

“As for Bay League I feel that we are doing well so far,” Baldo said. “ We had a tough loss on Saturday but we gotta come back out on Wednesday fighting. We are playing as a team and if we stick to what we know and our game I think we will do great.”
