Mira Costa’s track and field team finished its Bay League season after competing in the Bay League Finals at Redondo Union on Friday. The athletes that competed had previously qualified for the finals at the preliminaries on Tuesday.

Seniors Ethan Williams, Fabien Franck Love, Justin Johnson, Brendan Hunt and sophomore Jonah Tavai placed first in their events for the boys. Seniors Alexa Faubert and Elizabeth Chittenden, junior Shante Robinson and sophomore Jaylah Herron placed first in their events for the girls. The girls also came in first for the 4×400 meter and 4×100 meter relays. According to Williams, the team felt the meet was a success.

“We did great as individuals and as a team,” Williams said. “I felt as though this meet was a great way to go into [California Interscholastic Federation(CIF)] with a bang.”

The Mustangs ended their Bay League season and are now moving onto CIF Preliminaries. The athletes that were in the top three places for their event will move onto the CIF Preliminaries. According to Hunt, CIF is challenging for the team.

“Even if we don’t make it past prelims it doesn’t mean we didn’t have a good season,” Hunt said. “At this point the meet is individual and the athletes at CIF are really strong competition.”
