The Mira Costa cross country team traveled to Mt. San Antonio College to participate in the Mt. SAC Invitational meet Oct. 23.
The girls finished third overall in the Sweepstakes race and first in Division II. They ran for a  team time of 1:29:57. Senior Savannah Pio led the Mustangs with a time of 17:15, finishing fifth overall in the race. Junior Kelli Sugimoto finished ninth with a time of 17:40, the second best time for the Mustangs.
“I ran one of my best times and was really happy with my finish. Our team is doing well and, hopefully, we can continue our streak from here,” Sugimoto said.
The boys team finished third in the Division II varsity race with a team time of  1:21:27 and 144 points. Junior Adam Perez finished ninth overall with a time of 15:45. Coming in close behind, junior Travis Taylor finished 17th with a time of 15:58.
“Mt. SAC is the best course we run on. It is without a doubt the toughest, but it is also the best. Perez and Taylor both ran for times under 16 minutes. That is a great time on that course,” boys coach Bob Fish said.
Currently, the girls team is second in Bay League and the boys team is fifth. They ran yesterday in the Bay League Finals meet at the Peninsula and Palos Verdes course, but results were not available at the time of publication.
“I know that we have a lot of fight left,” Sugimoto said.
