Sophomore Maegan Manasse played rival senior Elle Taylor from Redondo Union High School yesterday in the championship round of Bay League singles tennis tournament after winning her first two matches in the tournament on Nov. 3 at the Jack Kramer Club in Palos Verdes. She competed in the championship yesterday, but results were not available at the time of publication.

Manasse was the lone Mustang to make it past the first round in the Bay League Singles tournament. She won her second- round match 6-2, 6-0 and her third-round match 6-1, 6-4 after getting a bye.

“I played well today. It was a hot day which makes it hard to compete, but I was able to fight through it,” Manasse said.

Along with Manasse, two other Mustangs competed in the tournament. Senior Alex Vand and sophomore Alex Waller were both knocked out in the first round, each losing their matches 0-8. Senior Taylor Mahr was scheduled to take part in the tournament but was a late scratch due to tendonitis in her right leg.

“Alex and I got a rough draw in the tournament. We started off slow and did not get the chance to make a come back,” Waller said.

Even though Vand and Waller were eliminated earlier then they had hoped, the tournament was enjoyable for the girls.

“It was a great experience for me as a sophomore. It was very interesting to see all the best players from Bay League competing,” Waller said.

The girls Bay League Doubles tournament took place on Nov. 4 at the Jack Kramer Country Club as well. The Mustangs sent seniors Laura Derian, Sara Derian and Vand along with sophomores Hanna McGuire, Hannah Proctor and Lauren Watts. The results were not available at time of publication.

“Going into the tournament Hanna and I had high expectations. We have learned from our previous Bay League games about different opponents we could have,” Laura Derian said.

The Mustangs’ next match on Nov. 11 will be their first in CIF play. Time and location have yet to be announced.
