Mira Costa Principal Dr. Ben Dale sent an email yesterday morning to all Costa families notifying them that Costa received nonspecific threats on Tuesday night from a group known as South Bay Clowns, which has become known, among others, for posting anonymous, violent threats toward various schools across the country.

The message included a picture of Costa’s campus with a caption stating, “don’t think we forgot about our fellow hs in the southbay,” according to Dale’s email. While the threat is still classified as nonspecific, Dale notified the Manhattan Beach Police Department of the incident.

“The entire thing seems ridiculous on the surface, but the uncertainty regarding these threats forces us to take them seriously,” Dale said.

According to Dale, the district takes all threats seriously and to ensure the safety of students and staff, the school has decided to increase police presence on campus.

“I think it’s good that the school is taking the threats seriously,” junior Sam Frias said. “Even though it may not be serious, it’s important to keep the school safe.”
