Mira Costa’s girls golf team placed third in the team competition at the Knabe Cup at Lakewood Golf Club in Long Beach on Wednesday.

Senior Ashley Kim led the team to victory with an excellent score of 6-under par 68, which placed her second in the individual competition. Freshman Shani Waite supported the victory with a 78. She was backed up by a score of 86 from senior Lexi Nielsen. According to Nielsen, the team played well.

“I’m really happy about how we played today,” Nielsen said. “I personally did not play to my best ability, but it was a very fun tournament.”

With an overall undefeated record of 8-0 and 5-0 in Bay League, Costa next faces West Torrance in an away match this Thursday. Despite this undefeated start, Nielsen still sees room for improvement from the high bar the team currently plays to.

“We are going to West Torrance this upcoming Thursday to compete at Alondra Golf Course,” Nielsen said “We are looking to piece together what we have learned in our previous matches to play to the best of our ability.”

**CORRECTION: Shani Waite obtained the second highest Costa score behind Ashley Kim. She shot a 78.
