Senior Allie Yamato has started revamping her old jeans for herself and her friends to add a special twist to her old clothes.

Yamato started making jeans about two weeks ago but has always wanted to reinvent her old clothes for as long as she can remember, she just never had enough time to do so. Yamato had currently made one pair of jeans for herself and has been wearing them around school and posting them on her social media pages to promote her new products. Yamato has recently gained interest in jean design but she has loved doing DIY’s since she was a little girl because her mom also has interests in arts and craft and designing jewelry and clothes.

“I wanted to start making and reinventing my jeans because I get inspiration from celebrities everyday street style and high brand designers accounts,” Yamato said. “I really wanted to make my outfits look like they’re worth more but do it myself and have the clothing be still fashionable for a lot less.”

In order to make her jeans, Yamato gets a pair of jeans that are distressed and that have large holes along the knees. Yamato then uses her old jewelry as chains and decor for the jeans, which she then attaches to the jeans by sewing them on.

“I love seeing the final product and looking at what I created and seeing how successful the final product turned out,” Yamato said. “I also love getting inspiration and trying out new designs on the jeans.”

Yamato has received requests from two people for her jeans. In order to promote her jeans, Yamato posts photos of them on her Snapchat story and Instagram. According to Yamato, after she starts making more jeans and selling them she will promote them more on her social media.

“My favorite part of creating the jeans is the process I go through in order to create them,” Yamato said. “It’s exciting to see all of the materials I use to make them and then have the final product.”

Besides making the actual jeans, Yamato says the biggest challenge about the production is getting the materials. According to Yamato, she shops in downtown Los Angeles and it is hard for her to commute there frequently. Another challenge Yamato faces is inventing new ideas and creating new ways to revamp clothes.

“I love wearing my final product,” Yamato said. “My favorite part about creating these jeans is always feeling even more confident in what I wear because it gives me a sense of achievement.”

According to Yamato, she would love to continue the creation and reinvention of jeans for a long time, especially in college and after college. Although this experience has not yet opened any new opportunities, Yamato hopes and thinks it would be super cool if it does.
