The latest installment in the Fast and Furious movie franchise, “The Fate of the Furious,” leaves viewers satisfied with an adrenaline-inducing thrill.

“The Fate of the Furious” features heart pounding and intense action scenes and  incredible cinematography that incorporates photogenic locations, but its attempt at comedic relief fails and renders the film to be awkward at times.

The film was directed by F. Gary Gary and features the return of Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel. The film is the eighth installment of the series and is the second film that has not featured Paul Walker.

“The Fate of the Furious” follows a group of highly skilled street racers as it seeks to stop a cyber terrorist who goes by the name of Cipher (Charlize Theron). The film follows the original characters of the series as they attempt to take down Cipher and bring back a fallen member of the street racing group.

A notable aspect of the film was the consistent inclusion of electrifying action packed scenes. The intense sequences capture the audience’s attention through massive scale brawls, for example the crew participates in an intense jailbreak. The inclusion of the fight scenes produce many breathtaking moments and adds more excitement to the action packed film.

At the film’s core is its captivating racing scenes, which have been the central point of the franchise since the start of the series. The addition of the racing scenes adds an intense and exhilarating ambience to the film. To open the film there is an intense race scene in Cuba which strengthens the film’s visual intensity and holds the audience’s attention throughout the film.

The exceptional cinematography throughout the entire film sets it apart from the past installments in the series. The unique perspectives displayed during the action sequences are invaluable to the film, adding intensity and realism to the scenes. In one scene a camera angle was taken from a car falling out of a building, placing the audience in the situation of the character inside the car.

“The Fate of the Furious” takes place in exotic, scenic settings in a myriad of countries all around the world. The vast number of different environments depicted throughout the film produce an atmosphere that makes the audience feel as if they were following the street racers in an action packed adventure around the world.

The film’s feeble attempts at humor are its single downfall. While it is evident that comedy is not the film’s strong suit, if the comedic attempts were executed better, then they would add much needed relief to the intensity of the action packed film.

“The Fate of the Furious” is an exhilarating action movie that gives a second wind to a tired franchise through its intense fight scenes, racing sequences, brilliant cinematography and array of photogenic settings, overcoming its single flaw of failed comedic relief.
