Costa Boys Rugby falls to St. John Bosco

Mira’s Costa boys rugby team was defeated 28-21 by the St. John Bosco Braves, at an away game on Jan. 13th. The top performer of the game was senior Jonah Tavai who led the Mustang’s offense with two tries.

Despite Costa’s strong offensive force, Costa was unable to maintain a solid defense allowing the opposing team to rack up 28 points. Tavai scored two tries for the Mustangs along with senior Kaden Loversky who converted both of the tries for the extra points. Loversky also scored his own separate try to help Costa remain in the game.

“I think we did a really good job because everyone played hard and never gave up,” sophomore Jackson Fischer said. “Bosco is a very good team and they were a great test for us.”

Costa is now 1-1 overall and will next face off against View Park Preparatory High School in an away game on Jan. 19th. The team hopes to make minimal mistakes in there next game and focus on fundamentals according to junior Slade Gordon.

It was a great game, well fought on both sides but now we know we need to work on our ball handling going into next week,” Loversky said. “Our defense was good especially near the try line and we’re looking forward to keep on improving going into our game next week against View Park.”
