Mira Costa’s Associated Student Body held its second annual This is Costa event on Feb. 7 in the math and science building to inform future Mira Costa parents about high school.

The meetings covered a variety of topics, including registration and how students may utilize their guidance counselors. Parents whose last names started with A-K attended meetings from 6:15 to 7:15 PM, and parents whose last names started with L-Z attended meetings from 7:30 to 8:30 PM.

“A couple years ago This is Costa underwent a format change, and it has made the meetings significantly more streamlined,” ASB and Activities Director Lisa Claypoole said. “Parents have a really great opportunity to ask questions because they’re in smaller groups.”

The parents received handouts concerning MBX summer school programs, extracurriculars, sports, and course requirements. This format of a more relaxed setting provided confidence in asking questions, said parent Cherylanne Martin.

“I now know what to look for in Costa’s high school experience,” said Martin. “This is information that I can go over with my daughter, and it’s definitely information I think she’ll benefit from hearing.”
