Mira Costa Badminton team competed in its first tournament against Arcadia on Mar. 3 at Arcadia High School.

For mixed doubles, junior duo Lulu Yu and Moose Cohn placed second, and sophomore Eric Mei and senior Scarlett Luo were semifinalists. Yu placed first in the girls singles and Luo followed by placing second. Doubles partners Audrey Mei and Audrey Kim were semifinalists.

“I think our team did really well on our first tournament, especially since we have multiple new doubles partners playing their first real games together,” Luo said.

As for boys, singles player Eric Mei placed first with Cohn competing in the finals. For the boys doubles, senior Henry Yu and junior Tiger Hao made their way to the finals, as well as senior Ray Kim and freshman Andrew Liu placing first in consolation.

“The Arcadia tournament was a great way to start off our season since everyone played so well,” Audrey Mei said. “We ended up winning many medals in different events as a result of everyone trying their best.”

The Mustangs will next face Cerritos High School on Tuesday at an away game. The team’s ready to play Cerritos after their successful Arcadia tournament, according to Luo.

“This season, I look forward to our growth as a team and winning many more matches with my partner,” Luo said. “As it is my last season playing badminton at Costa, I really want to put off my best performance.”
