Mira Costa’s Badminton team routed Fairmont Preparatory Academy 19-2 on April 19, at the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club. Girls singles and doubles players senior Audrey Kim and junior Lulu Yu led the team to an easy victory against the Huskies.
Mixed doubles gave Costa a solid start by winning four games out of 5 by scores of 21-5, 21-3, 21-4 and 21-8. Girls doubles players including Kim and senior Audrey Mei also contributed to the win by defeating Fairmont 21-1 and 21-9. As for boys doubles, senior duo Henry Yu and Tiger Hao had a close match with their opponents, ultimately winning 21-19 and 21-13.
“Today’s game was the best one we’ve played all season,” senior Scarlett Luo said. “We really got to showcase our skills, and each one of us played at our best.”
The Mustangs are currently 3-2 overall and will next play in a tournament on April 21, at Cerritos High School. The team’s looking forward to their last tournament of the season at Cerritos, according to Mei.
“Cerritos has always been our biggest rival,” Mei said. “I’m especially looking forward to competing against their doubles players.”
