Sophomore Brenly Parker uses her love of music to bring it to places where music may not be as present.

Parker started her ‘Power of Music’ club at Costa in September. Members meet at room 78 every Thursday at lunch and participate in performances at schools, children hospitals and senior living centers every other Thursday to raise money to fund art programs at underprivileged schools.

“I’ve been thinking about starting a club since middle school since I’ve always knew I wanted to be part of a leader in something,” Parker said.

In her past, Parker has been singing and writing songs since she was nine and currently has a released song called “Be Me” along with a music video. She also has another music video coming out and approximately 3 songs recorded.

“My [music video] goes along with what the club stands for because it’s really about being yourself and knowing you can be whatever you want to be,” Parker said.

Parker, alongside Sophomore Braeden Vandemore, share Co-Presidency in their Power of Music club where they give back to the community by producing musical performances in places where music may not be as prominent according to Parker.

“My best friend Braeden (Vandemore) and I decided to start this club since we both knew we were passionate towards music and interested in starting a cub,” Parker said.

Besides bringing a strong presence of music where it may not be that strong, Power of Music plans on raising money through fundraisers including possible mini concerts, Parker said. Already, the club raised $292 through a bake sale that was donated to Inner City Arts, an arts education organization for the inner city youth of Los Angeles.

“Music is just something [Vandemore] and have been so passionate about since we were little, and we want to make sure everyone has the chance of experiencing it,” Parker said.
