On the second scrimmage of the season Wednesday in Manhattan Beach, Costa girls volleyball defeated Redondo Union, 3-0, improving its scrimmage record to 2-0.

“We have a great group of girls on the team, and I think we will have a very successful year,” junior Jenna Colligan said. “Everyone is very supportive, and we all push each other to be the best that we can be.”

The top performers of this game were seniors Ava Gallien and Natalie Myszkowski, who defeated Redondo’s number-one team, 21-5 and 21-12, helping the Mustangs defeat the Seahawks.

“We played very well today in our game, especially considering there were 25 mph winds,” Myszkowski said. “The wind forced us to stay really focused on getting good touches on the ball and forced us to take care of every play.”

The future of when and where the Mustangs will play next is still to be determined.

“Today was a good indicator of how we will play in the future because we saw how we play in high winds,” Myszkowski said. “I am confident that we can play in any conditions with the same quality play.”
