Olivia O’Brien fascinates her audience with talented vocals, stage performance

Captivating her entire audience throughout the night, Olivia O’Brien’s performance at the Fonda Theater on Sept.1 was a thrilling yet emotional display, as she performed the third show of her tour.

   Performing her newest EP, “Episodes: Season 1,” O’Brien kept fans engaged and excited as she energetically danced around the stage. Having both live vocals, and live music, O’Brien’s talent shined through on stage, making an exciting performance.

   O’Brien is a pop artist who released her first single, “Trust Issues,” in 2016. Her first EP, “It’s Not That Deep,” was released in 2017, beginning her musical career. Since then, she’s released one album and four EPs, with over 25 songs in total.

  “Episodes: Season 1” was released in June of 2021 and includes six songs total, the most popular being her single “Sociopath.” According to O’Brien, “Episodes: Season 1” will be merged with another EP, titled “Episodes: Season 2,” to create a full length album.

   O’Brien’s stage presence made for an exciting show as she tried to include her whole fan base in her audience while performing by extending her arms out to fans, pointing, smiling, and waving with the crowd. Her performance was both prepared and spontaneous. She interacted with her audience through her empowering vocals matching the energy of her fans, making for a unique, one-of-a-kind show.

 O’Brien performed three different sets with six or seven songs in each set. One of the songs that she performed was an unreleased song, titled “B*tch Back.” Fans went crazy listening to a sneak peek of this new song.

   After all three of her sets were finished, O’Brien exited the stage, leaving her fans wanting more. Fans were disappointed, but were excitedly cheering. In response to all of the cheering and applause from her entire audience, O’Brien came back onto the  stage to perform her encore.

   The highlight of O’Brien’s show had to be her encore. She sang two of her most popular/streamed songs, “i hate u i love u,” and “Josslyn.” When she began to sing “Josslyn,” her final song of the night, the mood in the theatre instantly shifted. Lights began flashing from every corner of the stage, fans went crazy, and O’Brien danced energetically around the stage, matching the energy of her excited and screaming fans. 

   One of the most unique components to O’Brien’s show was when she performed two cover songs: “Complicated,” by Avril Lavigne, and “Your Love is My Drug,” by Kesha. O’Brien put her own fun and unique spin on some of her favorite artist popular songs, making her show a spontaneous and memorable performance for her entire fan base and her audience that night. 

   O’Brien’s show was a unique display of her talent as both an artist and a performer. With powerful singing and performing, O’Brien continuously proved through the night that she is a spectacular and musically inclined performer. 

   With an entertained audience throughout the entire show, O’Brien displays the beauty of music through her remarkable and unique presentation. 

    O’Brien played at the Fonda Theatre on Sept. 1 and is currently on tour debuting her newest EP.
