The Suicide Squad reboot was a disapointment with slow pacing, terrible villian

The Suicide Squad: The sequel to the first Suicide Squad, was disappointing and unoriginal. There were high set standards, and this movie wasn’t close to meeting them. Photo Courtesy of Radio X.

“The Suicide Squad” was a letdown and repetitive. It lacked originality and featured aimless villains.

“The Suicide Squad” was directed by James Gunn. The standards were set high with a cast of Margot Robbie playing Harley Quinn, John Cena playing Peacemaker, and Pete Davidson playing Blackguard. In addition, Viola Davis playing Amanda Walker who also starred in the 2016 “Suicide Squad.”

The movie begins with Amanda Walker sending many anti-heroes (Task Force X) to an island where their search and destroy mission begins, and  the majority of them die. It contains lots of graphic content, including bloody bullet holes. Eventually, it is left to the audience to predict which character will die next. The anti-heroes that survive superpowers consist of exploding polka dots, rat calling, good aim, and some strength. Their goal to find a giant starfish and destroy all evidence that showed America was involved with the scientific experiment was conducted on the victims of the starfish.

There was no introduction. This movie’s intention was to be a reboot, however, in the 2016 version, there was a well-crafted beginning scene where the audience learned what happened if characters failed to follow the rules. Without a beginning scene, understanding the motives of “The Suicide Squad” proved to be difficult. In the modern version, Amanda Walker tells the anti-heros that they will die if they don’t follow the rules, and then the movie cuts into a fighting scene.

The soundtrack was good, and was best when “I ain’t got nobody” by Louis Prima, Kelly Smith, Sam Buttera & The Witnesses played as Harley Quinn was escaping from being held prisoner, and was killing anyone in her way. The songs made this movie much more enjoyable and comedic.

It took place on an Island called Corto Maltese, which didn’t affect much of the plot, as task force x just went around killing mostly everyone in the way. This movie introduced multiple new characters that will maybe be part of the DCEU in the future.

This action/comedy movie brought nothing new to the table. It was the same graphic violence and then destruction of a city like you have probably seen again and again. If you want a good laugh it’s a good movie but for the jokes and nothing else the powers, villain, and plot was just not to par and went way below my expectations.

This reboot did not compare to the 2016 “Suicide Squad”, yes there were funny lines here and there but the characters and the villain were ridiculous. The funniest characters in this film are the human-sized shark and Harley Quinn.

The point of this movie was to get better critic ratings because the 2016 “Suicide Squad” did not do well in office. The script wasn’t anything great but this movie did surprisingly obtain better reviews.

“The Suicide Squad” was set in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6, 2021.The pacing of the movie was poor and it could have ended a lot sooner. If you are bored enough and need a graphic comedy to fill your time I suggest this movie. If not, there are way better movies to watch. Don’t waste your time. This movie can never be as iconic as the 2016 original Suicide Squad.
