Costa girls volleyball lost to Marymount, 3-0, in the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section semifinals on Oct. 30 with scores of 25-20, 25-9, and 25-20.

The team started off strong with a tied game of 7-7 in the first set before sophomore setter Charlie Fuerbringer got injured. According to senior captain and defensive specialist Cassidy Antrobius, the team continued to play hard, even though it was down a starting player.

“Going into the game, my team was prepared and we were ready to play a fun, competitive game of volleyball,” Antrobius said. “Marymount is a really skilled team, and we knew we would have to give it our all.”

Following the loss of the first set, the team continued its fight throught out the second and third sets, but fell short, ultimately losing 3-0. After winning against highly ranked teams in tournaments as well as winning Bay League, the team came into this match wanting to win and  ready to play hard, according to sophomore middle Rachel Moglia.

“I’m really proud of the way we stayed together as a team,” Moglia said. “After our starting setter got hurt, we were all pretty shaken up, but we never gave up on the game or each other, which I think is a reflection of how close we all have gotten.”

According to Antrobius, everyone on the team is very close and supportive, contributing to the team’s success this season. This loss marks the end of girls volleyball’s season with a 9-0 record in Bay League and a 27-8 record overall.

“We are a very tight knit team, and we all support each other very much,” Antrobius said. “I love this program and this team, and it was a great senior season. I couldn’t have asked for better teammates or coaches.”
