Thanks to senior Deigo Rodriguez-Borlado, boys soccer wins their first regionals game 1-0 after coming back off a loss from CIF the  semi-finals.

“’ It was pretty nerve-racking coming back to play off a loss,” senior goalie Jack Walter said. “After a team dinner and inspirational video we were all excited to get the opportunity to play again.”

While there weren’t many goal opportunities early in the game, Walter had a save in the middle of the first half, which kept the score 0-0.

“The other team was very aggressive and they played a very physical game,” Walter said. “But the defense was holding them off pretty well.” Walter said.

Costa picked up their game at the end of the first half, when senior center midfielder Diego Rodriguez-Borlado scored to bring the score to 1-0.

“I was happy with the way we played today,” Walter said. “We held them off in the second half and even had a couple good shots but I’m happy we are able to advance to the next round of regionals.”

The Mustangs will continue playing this Thursday, March 3rd, against Servite High School at Westminster School at 6:00 p.m. for the next round of CIF regionals.

“Servite is a good team, but we’re ready to bring our best this Thursday,” said Walter. “It’s going to be an exciting game!”
