Mira Costa’s girls lacrosse defeated Downey High School 5-4 on Saturday while competing in the Girls Lacrosse Rose Bowl Tournament.  The team was lead by junior Charlie Manley who secured a last minute goal leading Costa to victory.

Other offensive contributors included sophomore Avery McCarty, senior Kelli Mark, who scored two goals each. Manley said that the other team was a lot more competitive and aggressive compared to to Yorba Linda but Costa still managed to play very well.

“Overall compared to Yorba Linda they were a lot more physical and a tougher opponent,”  Manley said.  “However despite me getting injured after the game we managed to play very well and get the win.”

Costa, now 3-1 overall, will take on Alisa Niguel High School on Saturday away in the Finals of the Rose Bowl Tournament.  Junior Jamie Averch said that the team did a very good job at finishing their chances and are going to have to work on their ball control for the next game.

“We did very good in getting to the final third and finishing our chances in when there today,” Averch said. “However if we want to improve and win in the finals our overall ball control is going to need to be a lot better.”
