The Mira Costa’s girls tennis team defeated Long Beach Polytechnic High School 12-6 on Wednesday at home in the team’s first match of the season with a top performance from senior doubles player Grace Kendall.

Kendall, along with partner junior Kendall Lebbin, won their first match 6-0, lost the second 1-6, and won the third 7-5. The team had a great energy today and need to keep that up and continue training, Kendall said.

“Costa did a really good job today,” Kendall said. “Everyone got a chance to get out there and play which is nice. We lost a lot of good players so we’re really going to need to step it up this year, especially if we want to continue doing as well as we usually do.”

Mira Costa now 1-0 overall, will be playing in the Beckman Tournament tomorrow. Their performance was a good start to the season and they will have to play to the same caliber as they did today sophomore Audrey Vo said.

“We can definitely work on consistency and serving,” Vo said. “It’s going to be really interesting to see how our matches continue.”
