The Mira Costa Girls Volleyball team routed Morningside high school 3-0 in a best of 5 set series on Thursday at home. The top performers of the match included juniors Riley Hazelrigg and Malia Yuhl for their numerous hits that contributed to the team’s success.

The Mustangs had a strong defense allowing them to win the first set 25-6.  The team’s success continued leading them to win the second set 25-3 and closing out the third set 25-7.

“We did a really good job of playing well out of system, keeping service pressure on them, and being aggressive on offense,” said sophomore Talia Genova.

The Mustangs have a current overall record of 9-3 and 7-1 in Bay League. The team will play Redondo on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Redondo Union high school and hope to come away with a win to find themselves Co-Bay League Champions of the season according to Coach Austin Rester.

“Redondo has some really talented kids and a good coach over there, but I think we will have a chance at winning league,” said Rester. “I think we can play better than the first time we played Redondo and they can for sure play better but I like our chances.”
