Mustangs hit a stroke of success against the Peninsula Panthers on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the Rolling Hills Country Club.

Mira Costa wins against Peninsula High School in a demanding match played at Rolling Hills Country Club on 10/15.

“When preparing for golf matches, I make sure I have everything I need whether it is golf balls, tees, or my glove,” junior Kate Stargardter said. “I also make sure I drink enough water to stay hydrated, especially when playing in hot weather. I also like to make sure I give myself enough time to warm up before going out onto the course.”

Senior Gabi Kiger led the team with amazing round of 39, while senior Shani Waite and junior Juliae Shoda followed closely behind, scoring 40. Junior Sarah Matsuoka scored a 41, and Stargardter scoring a 46 were motivated by the encouragement and exceptional performances of their teammates.

“I started golfing in middle school, and I chose to play the sport because some members in my family play,” Stargardter said. “My dad also encouraged my brother and I to play because it is a good sport to know how to play.”

The Mustangs’ record for the season is currently 8-6 and 4-1 in the Bay League as they compete for their seventh straight Bay League Title. The Mustangs will have one last home match against Peninsula at Chester Washington Golf Course on Oct. 17 before the League Finals begin on Oct. 23.

“To qualify for CIF the team needs to get enough low scores in the matches and we have already qualified with those so we will continue preparing for League Finals when our final Bay League match is over later this week,” Coach Cox said.
