The Marvel miniseries “WandaVision” takes viewers through a strange yet engaging journey into multiple universes.

The miniseries starts out with black and white scenery, confusing viewers with the lack of modernity. The last two episodes are filled with color, finally grabbing the viewer’s attention and allowing the show to bounce back from its flaws.

The miniseries is placed in an idealized suburban area with a romanticized outlook on society and its reality. Elizabeth Olsen, playing Wanda Maximoff, and Paul Bettany, playing Vision, make up the two main characters. This couple observes that everything in life is not how it seems to be, living in a reality that takes them through different decades of television tropes.

The two main characters are based on the Marvel Comic characters Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch, and Vision.

The one-season sitcom was created by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman. “WandaVision” was released to Disney+ on Jan. 15, and its last episode will air on March 15.

The opening two episodes are misleading and fail to catch the viewer’s eye. Set in a black and white scene, it makes it difficult for viewers to become fully invested in the show. The monotone coloration brings a disinterest to viewers and makes it difficult to want to continue watching the series, as it lacks the vibrancy that shows are now known for.

One major downside to the show is the fact that the audience must have basic knowledge of previous Marvel movies to enjoy the series properly, diluting the diversity of the series, as it only caters to a very specific range of audience members. The series may lack an audience appreciation for its intriguing factors since the viewers may feel lost and confused at times when they should be fully immersed in the plot.

The acting throughout the episodes is remarkable and one of the high points of the series. The ability of the actors to form a strong connection with the audience and each other allows the viewer to know and feel every emotion as it is displayed on the screen. Olsen and Bettany have strong chemistry and solidify their characters realness despite the fantastical world they are living in.

The storyline of the series lacks focus as it goes through different decades of television tropes. Since viewers must already know some background information, it makes it difficult to make sense of the plot and its conflict. Instead of the variety in decades adding a unique touch to the series, it adds chaos to the plot and brings general disinterest to its viewers.

“WandaVision” is overall not worth watching for viewers who are unfamiliar with the Marvel universe, as the storyline is difficult to keep up with without any prior background knowledge of the original story.

Released on Jan.15, “WandaVision” is rated TV-14 and is available on Disney+.
