Costa’s Associated Student Body (ASB) hosted “Viva Las Vegas” Casino Night on March 18 from 6:00 to 10:00 P.M. at the Zimmerman Auto Museum.

ASB’s annual casino night included activities such as casino games, dance floor and an ice cream bar. According to senior publicity officer Skylar Maycon, ASB came to the venue prior to the event to set up the dance floor, food room and the ice cream.

Students participate in Blackjack poker tables and bet their money. Along with poker, Casino Night had a dance floor, DJ, ice cream and Canes.

“I love that ASB gets to host such a fun event every single year,” Maycon said. “It is different from the other dances [ASB] hosts because of the costumes and casino games.”

According to Maycon, the Zimmerman Auto Museum was a great choice to hold the event. The museum has a garage full of vintage cars for students to look at as well as a room for the DJ and dance floor.

“The Zimmerman Auto Museum was such a cool place especially for casino night.” junior vice president Sophia Delino said. “Looking at all the vintage cars was so cool and definitely was another activity at the event.”

While grade levels had designated costumes, students were encouraged to dress up in costume in pairs or groups. The junior class decided to dress up at Smurfs while the senior class were characters from “Men in Black”.

“My grade dressed up as smurfs simply because we wanted to dress up in a silly costume that everyone could throw together at home,” Delino said. “I liked seeing everyone in their funny costumes because it was different from a typical school dance.”

To fit in with the casino theme, there were tables for students to play poker, black jack and craps. According to senior ASB officer Dupin, ASB wanted to create an environment that truly matched the energy of a casino which is why they chose to include the real games and dealers.

“Playing real casino games with the dealers was definitely the best part of the night,” Dupin said. “I’ve played poker before, but this was way more fun because I got to play with all my friends.”

Students were offered food from Raising Canes as well as a soda and ice cream bar. According to Maycon, ASB wanted to incorporate foods they thought would be enjoyed by the students who attended the event.

“[ASB] tries to include food and activities that we think will be good for everyone at casino night,” Delino said. “It was cool to have the real gambling experience, but also be able to enjoy it with all my friends.”
