Mira Costa girls basketball beat Leuzinger on the road Tuesday night, 65-26, improving its overall record to 12-8 and 1-2 in Bay League play.

Junior guard Keilani Ikehara led the team with 11 points and 11 steals. Senior guard Camille Mills was right behind her with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 steals. Senior forward Alison Bartak and freshman Michelle Lanterman both pitched in with 8 points apiece.

“I was very confident and really determined to be aggressive on offense,” Bartak said. “We were able to pull off our first Bay League win of the season.”

The first half was dominated by Costa as they went up by 24 points. Costa had 16 steals in the first half and the score was 35-11 going into the third quarter. In the third quarter Costa continued to dominate Leuzinger, outscoring them 28-9. Costa finished the game, winning 65-26.

“We played better tonight,” coach John Lapham said. “Our defensive pressure created problems for Leuzinger and gave us a lot of easy baskets. We still don’t rebound well, but we will work on this a lot for the rest of the season.”

Costa plays again at home Friday night against Peninsula High School at 6:00 pm.
