Mira Costa’s girls water polo team played in the ACF invite tournament in San Diego on Friday and Saturday, with top performances by seniors utility Kaylee Brownsberger and attacker Yen Nguyen.

On Friday, the team lost to Vista Murrieta High School 9-5 and defeated El Camino High School 11-7. On Saturday, the team beat Santiago High School 11-10, and Long Beach Wilson High School 9-7, but lost to Rosary High School 10-6. According to Nguyen Costa played great over the weekend.

“This was a super competitive tournament, so I was really proud of how well we did,”  Nguyen said. “We did super well against Long Beach Wilson, who we previously got demolished by, so it was really rewarding to play so strongly against them.”

The Mustangs are currently 3-1 in Bay League and are 11-9 overall. The team’s next is against Peninsula at Peninsula High School on Tuesday. According to Nguyen the team is determined to do well against Palos Verdes.

“Palos Verdes has a competitive water polo team so the match should be interesting,” Nguyen said. “I am confident in our team, and I think we will do well.”
