Mira Costa’s boys water polo team narrowly lost to Foothill High School 11-9 on Friday at home with top performances by senior driver Christian Thornton and senior defender Ty Panitz.

The Mustangs did well against one of the top ranked teams. Christian Thornton had a pair of goals for Costa, but unfortunately, it was not enough. According to Panitz, the Mustangs couldn’t finish and missed the net too many times.

“We played great all around until the third quarter,” Panitz said. “We struggled defensively, and didn’t capitalize on our chances.”

Costa, now 7-4 overall, will take on Redondo Union High School in a crucial Bay League game on Thursday at Redondo. According to Panitz, the team needs to finish strong to be successful.
“To be successful, we need to finish our chances, block more shots, and communicate more,” Panitz said.
