Mira Costa’s marching band placed first in its first competition of the year yesterday at Royal High School in Simi Valley.

Costa not only won first place in its division, but also won the High Visual Sweepstakes award, which is given to the school with the highest score out of all bands participating in the tournament, not just that band’s division. Marching Band’s next competition is on Oct. 22 at Hacienda Heights.
