Mira Costa Girls Golf improved immensely in their rematch against Diamond Bar High School on Thursday, Sept. 26. Coach Tom Cox purposely placed them against really good teams for their non-league matches to prepare them for when the league starts.

The Mustangs went up against Diamond Bar High School at the Diamond Bar Golf Course with a course score of par 36. Costa scored 216 against Diamond Bar’s score of 201.

“The most important thing in golf is your mindset towards it, you have to be very patient and practice a lot,” freshman Lucy Langlois said.

Top performers included senior Gabi Kiger and juniors Kate Stargardter, Juliae Shoda and Sarah Matsuoka. Kiger scored 38 with only two over par, and Stargardter scored a 41, going five over par.  Shoda and Matsuoka also stood out, scoring 44, which was eight over par.

“In the short time I have been playing for Mira Costa Golf I already feel like I am a part of the family.” Langlois said.

The Mustangs are now 4-5 after facing Diamond Bar in a rematch on Sept. 26. Despite lacking the home course advantage this time around, Costa improved during the matches. The Mustangs will face South Torrance in their first league match of the season on Oct. 1 at Los Verdes Golf Course.

“Despite playing a really difficult team we improved and played very well,” Langlois said.
